Military Ranks

Rank numbers now run from 0 to 40, from nobody to Avatar of Astonia. Governor missions are strongest when thy rank matches thy level.

What is military rank?

The military rank system stretches from 0 (nobody) all the way to 40 (Avatar of Astonia). Every rank has an expected character level — the level the realm thinks suits a soldier of that station — and an amount of military exp required to reach it.

Rank is climbed mostly by running Governor "daily" missions. The Governor hands out tasks scaled to thy current rank; completing them earns military exp, and enough military exp raises the rank itself. Demon-lord kills, military missions and the like also feed the same military exp pool, but the Governor's daily run is the bedrock of any rank push.

Why rank matters: Governor mission rewards

Rank is not just a title. The Governor's daily missions pay experience, and military exp, and the size of the character experience payout depends on how closely thy character level matches the rank's expected level. Stay aligned and the missions are a steady, generous experience tap; drift too far ahead or behind and the payout is penalized.

Reward scaling by level alignment

Alignment Effect
Close to expected level Best Governor mission rewards.
Moderately mismatched Reduced reward scaling.
Extreme mismatch Penalty to mission experience.
Any mission Character experience is capped at 15% of the next level.
Hardcore character Receives 10% extra mission experience.

Reading the table: alignment compares thy actual character level against the expected level for thy current rank. The closer those values are, the better Governor missions pay. Extreme mismatches are deliberately worse.

Practical takeaway: climb thy rank in step with thy character level. Governor missions are at their best when level and rank are tight together. Character experience from a mission is always capped at 15% of thy next level, and Hardcore characters receive an extra 10% mission experience bonus.

The military exp cost

Military exp required to reach a given rank follows a clean cube formula:

military exp required = rank3

Rank 1 takes 1 military exp, rank 2 takes 8, rank 10 takes 1,000, rank 20 takes 8,000, rank 40 takes 64,000. The cost climbs steeply — the early ranks are quick, the late ranks are a long, deliberate march.

Practical advice

  • Run a Governor mission a day. The cumulative experience over a few weeks is enormous, and the rank pushes itself along the way.
  • Keep level and rank in step. The closer thy character level is to the expected level for thy rank, the better Governor missions pay.
  • Plan for the cube. Going from rank 19 to rank 20 is 1,141 military exp; rank 39 to rank 40 is 4,681. The late-rank grind is the bulk of the journey.
  • Mix sources of military exp. Governor missions are the steady tap, but insane demon-lord kills, military missions and other rank-feeding activities all contribute — pile them on when thou hast time.
  • Don't over-level. If thou push character level too far ahead of rank, the alignment payout shrinks and the daily missions become a worse experience source than ordinary hunting. Slow the level climb until rank catches up.
